HOW DO WE REMOVE EARWAX?

Microsuction Ear Wax Removal

Microsuction is the safest and quickest method of removing the wax from your ears, as recommended by the British Society of Audiology.

Microsuction Ear wax removal involves a very small vaccumn that is inserted within your ear canal to gradually remove the ear wax. Due to the anatomy of the ear, the vaccumn pressure is very low so that it is safe and comfortable for our patients.

Otoscope Examination

Ear wax can cause symptoms of tinnitus or hearing loss in your ears. Prior to your treatment our practitioners will use an otoscope to identify if earwax is causing any of these problems.

An otoscope is a tool that shines a beam of light to help visualise and examine the condition of the ear canal and eardrum.

Ear Wax Removal Methods

There are a number of options that can be used to remove ear wax:

Ear Candling

For something that involves fire close to the ear canal, its been known to cause burns to the face, outer ear, eardrum and inner ear. Additionally there is currently no research to prove that ear candling actually removes ear wax. They can also make build-ups of ear wax worse and are not recommended by medical professionals.

Ear Syringing

This flushes out the wax using water (irrigation). Although it is a faster method, this can aggravate the inner causing discomfort, inflammation and a higher risk of infection.

Endoscopic Microsuction

Use of a low pressure suction machine to remove ear wax. – Can be preformed on patients with further complications (Perforated eardrums, grommets, masteoid cavity and ear infections) – More comfortable during the precudre for the patient – Lowest risk of infection compared to other methods This is now becoming the most preferred method due to its comfort, ease and safety of patients.

We recommend adding some oil to your ears before your appointment to help loosen the ear wax build up before removal.
